GET TO KNOW YOUR COACHES – REACE
Today you get to learn a little bit more about GEO’s mobility guru – Reace. Reace came to us with a background in Personal Training at Fitness First and CrossFit coaching at CrossFit Plus on the Central Coast. Despite his young age he possesses a wealth of knowledge surrounding the body and how it moves, and this has translated into a brilliant mobility coach for us at GEO. And not only can he talk the talk, he can walk the walk too. I’ve trained with him a few times and the guy has an engine on him and strength to match.
So lets get to know a bit more about him.
When did you start CrossFitting?
I started CrossFit in 2013 in my garage gym, teaching myself the movements via youtube.
What made you start?
I needed a change in my training scheme. CrossFit looked different, exciting and challenging.
How were you training before CrossFit?
Just the usual bodybuilding/hypertrophy training, everyday was upper body day.
What is your favourite aspect of training?
It would have to be the challenge. But the community would definitely have to be another favourite aspect of CrossFit.
If you could take one piece of exercise equipment with you to a deserted island, what would it be and why?
A barbell. It’s versatile and can be used for numerous types of training and exercises.
What other sports have you played and at what level?
I played football at club level and A grade level through high school. I also play Futsal.
What other physical activities, if any, do you do outside of the Box?
The usual beach body training (bodybuilding), football, and futsal. I also enjoy trying new things, I have done MMA, indoor rock climbing and bouldering and water sports (knee boarding and wake boarding) in the past and still do some to this day. I also frequent music festivals to get my groove on – it’s a hell of a workout!
What is your favourite quote?
“Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations” – Unknown Author
What is your favourite movie?
Too hard choosing one, so it would have to been either “Bad Boys 2”, “Think Like a Man” or “Crazy, Stupid, Love”
What album would you take with you to a deserted island?
“Bloom” by RUFUS
What is your favourite cuisine?
I honestly love most cuisines and foods, but I’d have to choose Italian.
What advice would you give to someone new to CrossFit?
Enjoy the experience. Focus on yourself and don’t worry about what everyone else is doing. We were all beginners at the start of our journey. Focus on the quality of the movement and everything else will fall into place in time. And most of all, have fun
What are your training goals for 2017?
- Hold a handstand for more than 10 seconds!
- Improve mobility and quality of movement, balance and ground flow
- Snatch 80kg consistently
- Train my hands so they don’t tear so easily during bar work
Who inspires you?
The most important woman in my life, my mum!
